Last 8 Minutes From a Nigerian Wedding

For the ten of you who read this blog, my apologies for not being as active as usual. I have been working hard to clear out my ’06 weddings and that means putting aside the blog for a short time. I just finished another wedding with only one more ’06 to go so I thought I’d pop in and do a little update…..

One of the cool things about what I do is that from time to time, I get to learn a little bit about how different cultures celebrate weddings. I had one such opportunity at Elizabeth and Bernard’s wedding a few months back. For their reception, they decided to honor Nigerian traditions such as the Breaking of the Kola Nut and the Money Dance. I had a great time telling their story and thought I’d share the last 8 minutes with you. Enjoy!

Chris, we’ve been so busy lately that I hadn’t visited your blog for a while. I do really enjoy your clips and find your comments to be full of insight and the product of careful reflection, just as I did at the 4Ever group meeting. I was excited to see you had gotten your Canon 8mm. I’ve been thinking about it too, more as a someday kind of thing than a plan. But several things lately have heightened my interest and seem to be moving me in that direction. Earlier on the same day that I saw that you’d bought your Canon, I asked a new client what she wanted from the video we would produce for them, and she said, “Oh, just documentation for his family in South Africa who can’t attend. We have a photographer for the artistic interpretation.” (Hmm…) And then I saw your post, and now I think I may want to just go ahead and jump into the 8mm pool too. Not that I’m under the illusion that 8mm will make me an artist, or turn our production into art if it isn’t already. I just want to play and see where it takes me. Any advice about best sources to buy, film stocks, processing,or other concrete tips? And might you be thinking about possibilities for a future presentation on this subject at the 4Ever Group conference? Am sure you must have already found the http://www.filmshooting.com site . Also, check out http://www.MissyMcLamb.com. She’s the “artistic photographer” (not being snide, she is the real deal) for the upcoming wedding I mentioned, and she has a film clip at her site you might find interesting. The location for the wedding on the clip is Duke University Chapel, which will also be the site of my new client’s wedding, so doubly interesting to me. Anxiously awaiting 8mm clips on your blog.

Thanks and best wishes,
Jenny Barwick
